From an overall perspective, the unique black-and-white alternating marble texture on the bezel is reproduced with a high degree of fidelity. Slight side-profile view, presenting the Starship engine skeleton at 1:1 scale. Viewed from a slight angle, the RM 35-03 is visible in its entirety, featuring a white bezel and light blue rubber strap and crown; the visual fidelity is exceptionally high. Black carbon fiber middle layer, Grade 2 titanium with light blue rubber O-ring The 13.4mm side thickness is virtually identical to the genuine article.

Description

Richard Mille 1:1 Clone RM 35-03 Butterfly Rotor White Quartz Automatic Winding Watch John Studio Custom Edition, We have currently released only the white quartz version.

Butterfly Rotor RM 35-03
The RM 35-03 is the latest model in the "Baby Nadal" series, officially launched in late 2021 and available in three colorways: White Quartz, Blue Quartz, and Stealth Carbon.

Like the RM 35-02, it features an automatic winding movement that relies on wrist motion to drive the rotor and wind the mainspring. However, during activities like a golf swing or the kind of high-speed, powerful strokes Nadal executes—reaching speeds of 200 km/h—a standard automatic rotor would spin wildly, generating immense inertial energy. This would keep the barrel in a state of extreme tension, causing severe gear wear or even snapping the mainspring.

The "Butterfly Rotor" was introduced to solve this issue, offering both "Daily" and "Sport" modes. In Daily mode (ON), the two curved titanium rotor segments on the back of the movement close together to form a conventional semi-circular rotor. With its center of gravity shifted to the edge, it rotates freely with even slight wrist movements, efficiently winding the watch. In Sport mode (OFF)—activated by pressing the "Sport" button at the 7 o'clock position before vigorous activity—the rotor segments instantly spread apart like butterfly wings into a symmetrical 180-degree "X" shape. This shifts the center of gravity back to the axis of rotation; consequently, no matter how violently the arm moves, the rotor remains stationary, effectively pausing the automatic winding function to protect the movement.

Craftsmanship: Genuine vs Super-Clone

Genuine Product
The bezel and case back are crafted from white quartz fiber, while the case middle is made of black Carbon TPT®; the movement baseplate and bridges are constructed from Grade 5 titanium, with the entire skeletonized movement assembly forming a distinctive "Starship Engine" shape. Its standout feature is the Butterfly Rotor, which allows the wearer to alter the rotor's geometry via a pusher at 7 o'clock—switching between settings for daily wear and intense activity ("Sport Mode") to prevent overwinding the movement. Additionally, a pusher at 2 o'clock enables easy switching between winding (W), neutral (N), and hand-setting (H) modes, much like a car's gear selector.

This Top Replica
The bezel and case back are crafted from genuine white quartz fiber, while the caseband (middle section) utilizes black carbon fiber. Rather than ordinary plastic or low-end fiberglass, the material consists of multiple layers of parallel filaments (each less than 30 microns thick) impregnated with resin and cured under high pressure at 120°C. Consequently, the case features a unique, marbled pattern of alternating white and gray layers; the lines are sharp yet the texture feels smooth and warm to the touch, perfectly replicating the matte finish of the genuine article.

It is powered by a custom RMAL2 integrated clone movement; the positioning of the gears and the layout of the transmission shafts mirror the genuine movement by over 95%, creating a highly open and airy visual effect when viewed from the front or back. The thickness of this 1:1 clone RM 35-03 White watch has been successfully kept to 13.4 mm—almost identical to the 13.15 mm of the original—and the curvature of the case (designed for ergonomic wrist fit) is perfectly accurate. Weighing approximately 90g (including the rubber strap), it is about 5–15g heavier than the genuine model (75–85g), a difference that is virtually imperceptible during daily wear.

Low-end Replica
The bezel and case back are made of resin plastic and printed fiberglass; the white casing lacks the jade-like translucency and silky texture found on the genuine article or the 1:1 clone, appearing instead as a flat, lifeless white. The black carbon fiber sections on the sides are actually made of black-painted stainless steel. It is powered by a basic Japanese automatic movement (Miyota 8215 or 9015) fitted with a decorative black zinc alloy "fake bridge" plate on both the front and back, resulting in a solid-plate construction. All functions on the RM 35-03 are non-functional; the watch typically measures 17mm in thickness and weighs approximately 115g.

The cutting-edge technology behind the 1:1 clone RM 35-03 Butterfly Rotor
1, The rotor truly spreads its wings: When you press the button at the 7 o'clock position on the case, the "butterfly rotor" on the back undergoes an instantaneous mechanical transformation, just like the genuine article. It shifts from its standard, folded semi-circular state to split and unfurl outward into a straight 180-degree line.

2, The dial indicator truly jumps: Simultaneously, the red-tipped hand within the ON/OFF status indicator at the 6 o'clock position on the dial snaps realistically between "ON" and "OFF" in response to the button press.

3, This 1:1 clone features a fully functional mode selector button at the 2 o'clock position: pressing it causes the W-N-H indicator at the 4 o'clock position to shift accordingly. In "W" mode, the crown allows only for manual winding; in "H" mode, it enables time setting; and in "N" mode, it enters a neutral (freewheeling) state to protect the movement. The user experience of this function is virtually indistinguishable from that of the genuine watch.

How can you tell the difference? The Butterfly Rotor positioned at 7 o'clock is the ultimate "acid test."
Visually, the transformation linkage and mode functions of the Butterfly Rotor have been fully replicated; however, there remain fundamental differences in the underlying physical locking logic compared to the authentic product.

The logic of the authentic watch: When the genuine RM 35-03 switches to "OFF" (Sport Mode), an internal independent gear train drives the rotor mechanism to position its two weighted arms in a perfectly symmetrical, balanced state. The center of gravity shifts back to the exact geometric center; consequently, no matter how violently you swing your wrist, the rotor remains motionless on the case back—as if locked by an electromagnetic brake—thereby completely disengaging the winding mechanism.

The logic of the 1:1 super clone: When the top-tier replica switches to "OFF," limitations regarding gear module specifications and the high-rigidity alloy materials mean it can usually only achieve "rotor freewheeling" or "increased gear resistance." In other words, when you shake the watch vigorously, the deployed 180° butterfly wings will still spin or wobble due to inertia. While the rotation no longer winds the mainspring—effectively achieving a disengaged clutch state—it cannot achieve the absolute "lock" seen in the genuine model.

How to distinguish: Press the button at the 7 o'clock position clockwise to deploy the butterfly-style rotor on the case back (activating "OFF" or "Sport Mode"). Then, hold the watch in your hand and shake the case vigorously—up and down, left and right. If the rotor remains rigidly fixed in place and does not rotate at all with your movements, it is an authentic piece. If the rotor has deployed but the 180° "butterfly wings" still spin or wobble as you shake it, then it is a top-tier replica.

Compatibility with Genuine Parts
John Studio emphasizes "part interchangeability." Key elements—such as the curvature of the case, the rubber rings on the strap, the soft natural latex strap itself, and the dimensions of the titanium folding clasp—are fully interchangeable with genuine, authentic parts. This is one of the primary features that distinguishes our studio's products from other versions on the market.
